Spurs Versus Trail Blazers Preview
Feb 21st, 2012 by PJ LaFerla
The slate is light (only five games) Tuesday night in the NBA, but it does feature two teams squaring off with winning records, as the San Antonio Spurs travel to Portland to take on the Trail Blazers.
To say the Spurs are hot would be a total understatement. Besides owning a team record of 23-9, they are currently riding a streak of eleven in a row – winning on the road and at home. Their against the spread numbers have been nothing short of brilliant: 10-1-1 over the past twelve games.
For the Trail Blazers, playing just one game above the .500 mark (17-16) in the Western Conference just might not be good enough for the playoffs. Ironically they have matched their against the spread record with their overall at 17-16. The Trail Blazers certainly have history on their side against the Spurs, as they own some stellar numbers. They have beaten the Spurs five straight at home and eight of the last ten (80%) overall.
The Odds makers have recognized the Trail Blazers hot-play at home (11-6 ATS) and have favored them by -3 points, while posting the over/under total at 188.5
This is one of those games where you think the Trail Blazers are in the right spot to produce a winning wager for you, but you just cannot go against the Spurs and their sizzling play as of late.
As with every game, this matchup has so many factors to take in to account and at the end of the day, for me, those factors give the San Antonio Spurs the edge as a road underdog. The Spurs have been a road underdog eight times this season, and they have come away with six ATS covers in those matchups. Look for the Spurs to get number seven tonight against the Trail Blazers.
Make your play on the San Antonio Spurs to not only cover the point spread, but to win this game outright!
