The New Orleans Hornets will be on the road this Saturday evening, as they travel to the state of Texas for an NBA betting matchup against the Dallas Mavericks that is set to take place at the American Airlines Center, with tip off scheduled for 5:35 PM EST.
The Oddsmakers are giving the advantage to the home team in this contest, as they have listed Dallas as -5 1/2 point favorites, while setting the over/under total at 193 1/2 points.
The lowly Hornets enter play tonight with just seven wins on the season and 25 losses. However, they are a respectable 10-6 ATS on the road this season and 14-14 as an underdog. Their offense is among the worst in the NBA, as they are only good for 91.4 points per game. Their defense is much better, but mediocre at best, as they surrender nearly 98 points per contest, which ranks 17th in the NBA.
Meanwhile, Dallas has accumulated just 13 wins on the year, while dropping 20 games so far this season. They are a poor 6-8 against the spread at home and a modest 6-6 when listed as favorites. The Mavericks average about 99 points per game, which has them ranked at 10th best in the NBA.
The Hornets have failed to cover the point spread in their last four games overall and their last four played on a Saturday. They are a superb 7-3-2 ATS in their last 12 versus the Mavericks, but 0-2-2 in their last four when the game is being played in Dallas.
Dallas is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games versus a team with a losing straight up record, but just 1-4 ATS in their last five following a game where they covered the point spread. Ten of the Mavericks last 14 games overall have gone over the posted total.
Wins have come at a premium for the Hornets this season and the same could be said for Dallas, but this is a home game for the Mavericks, so I expect them to handle the Hornets without any problems, as they win and cover the spread in this one.
Mavericks -5 1/2
