The San Antonio Spurs will be on the road this Sunday evening, as they take a short trip to visit the Dallas Mavericks for an NBA betting matchup that is set to take place at the American Airlines Center, with tip off scheduled for 7:35 PM EST.
The Oddsmakers have set the line to the advantage of the visitors in this contest, listing the Spurs as a -5 1/2 point favorite, while posting the over/under total at an inflated 207 1/2 points.
The Spurs enter this matchup riding a four-game winning steak and now sit with 23 wins and only 8 losses on the season. Those results are good enough for first place in the Southwest Division. San Antonio have covered the point spread in 10 of their 17 games played on the road this season and they are also 17-10-1 as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks are going in a different direction than the Spurs, as they come into play tonight having lost five games in a row. They are now just 12-18 straight up on the season and in next to last place in the Southwest Division. Dallas has one of the worst defenses in the league, as they are giving up about 103 points a night to opponents, which ranks 28th in the league.
The Spurs are 0-4 against the spread in their last four games played on the road and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games versus Western Conference opponents. The Spurs have gone over the posted total in five of their last seven games played on a Sunday.
The Mavericks are 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games following a game where they failed to cover the number, but they are 0-6 ATS in their last six matchups played on a Sunday. Dallas has elipsed the total in 8 of their last 11 games overall.
Needless to say, the Spurs are obviously a much better team than the Mavericks, but this is a bitter rivalry matchup and that may just elevate Dallas’ game a bit. However, I don’t think it will be enough to overtake the Spurs in this one. San Antonio will pick up the win on the road tonight and cover the points spread as well.
Spurs -5 1/2
