The Indiana Pacers will be on the road this Monday afternoon, January 21, as they travel to Tennessee for an NBA betting matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies that is set to take place at the FedEx Forum, with tip off scheduled for 1:05 PM EST.
The Oddsmakers are giving the advantage to the home team in this contest, listing Memphis as -6 point favorites, but they are expecting both teams to struggle on offense, which explains why the over/under total has been set to a very low 173 points.
Indiana enters play this afternoon with 25 wins and 16 losses on the year and in first place in the Central Division. They are losers against the spread when playing on the road and as underdogs, going 10-12 and 5-11 receptively. The Pacers own the best defense in the NBA, as they are holding opponents to fewer than 90 points per game (89.3).
Meanwhile, Memphis has won their last two times out and now own a straight up record of 26 wins and 13 losses on the season. They are an impressive 12-7 against the spread at home and 18-11-1 when laying the chalk. Memphis is right behind Indiana in team defense, with a points against average of 89.6 per game.
Indiana is 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games played on a Monday, but only 1-4 against the spread in their last five games played on the road. Nine of the Pacers last 11 games have stayed under the posted total.
Memphis is 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 games versus Eastern Conference opponents and 4-1 ATS in their last five versus teams from the Central Division. Eight of the Grizzlies last ten games played at home have stayed under the posted total.
Obviously this game is all about defense, so the +6 with the Pacers is the smarter play as this game should be tight throughout all four quarters.
