“March Madness Baby!!!”, the infamous words of sports commentator Dick Vitale, when attempting to describe the feverish tempo, impossible upsets, and stirring drama of the Men’s NCAA Div 1 Basketball Tournament. Wait… Did Vitale forget about the NIT (National Invitational Tournament) Well, until we mentioned it, so did you. Tomorrow, March 15, is selection Sunday, when the NCAA committee will decide who comes and who goes.
Of course, this day is part of the Madness itself. With the inaugural round kicking off in less than 48 hours, the various teams that make it to the annual “dance” will be shuffle-boarded around the USA to various tourney locations. No doubt, the travel, intense schedule, and high competition will tire most players, which is why, in many ways, the tournament is the perfect coda to the end of any memorable NCAA basketball season.
