The Los Angeles Lakers will be on the road this Sunday night, December 16, as they head to the city of brotherly love for a betting matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers that is set to take place at the Wells Fargo Center, with tip off schedule for 6:05 PM EST.
The Oddsmakers have set the line to the advantage of the visiting team in this contest, listing the Lakers as a -3 point favorite, while posting the over/under total at 197 points.
The Lakers enter this matchup with a disappointing 10-14 straight up record after 24 games played so far this season. They are even worse against the spread with a 9-15 record, including 3-8 on the road. The Lakers defense has been terrible all season and their 99.4 points surrendered to opponents each game is ranked 21st best in the league.
Philadelphia is off to a modest start with 12 straight up wins compared to 11 losses. Against the spread they are 11-12, including a 6-8 mark at home. In the underdog role, the 76ers are 5-4 ATS in nine chances this season. Philadelphia has a poor offense that only averages 92.3 points a night, which ranks 27th in the NBA.
The Lakers are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games played on a Sunday, but just 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games played on the road.
They have gone over the posted total in four straight games played on a Sunday.
Philadelphia is only 2-5 ATS in their last seven games played at home and 0-4 against the spread in their last four versus teams in the Western Conference.
Until the Lakers can prove they can win on the road consistently, I am hesitant to side with them – especially when laying the chalk. Philadelphia will come away with the ATS cover in this matchup.
