The Atlanta Hawks will be on the road this Saturday evening, January 12, as they travel to the nation’s capital for an NBA betting matchup against the Washington Wizards that is set to take place at the Verizon Center, with tip off scheduled for 7:05 PM EST.
The Oddsmakers are giving a slim advantage to the visting team in this contest, as they have listed the Hawks as -2 1/2 point favorites, while setting the over/under total at 190 1/2 points.
Atlanta enters play tonight with 21 wins and 14 losses on the season and in second place behind the Miami Heat in the Southeast Division. They have covered the point spread 8 times in 17 chances on the road this season and 10 of 24 when listed as favorites. The Hawks own the 6th best defense in the league, as they are holding opponents to just under 96 points per game (95.5).
Meanwhile, Washington has been awful all season long and as a result they have only accumulated five straight up wins compared to a staggering 28 losses, which is the worst record in the NBA. However, against the spread they are a different team. They are 18-14-1 ATS overall, 9-8 at home and 18-12-1 as an underdog. The Wizards offense averages just 89.2 points per game, which come in at dead least in the league.
The Hawks are 6-13-1 against the spread in their last 20 games versus teams in the Eastern Conference and 1-4 ATS in their last five games played on the road. They have covered 8 of their last 12 matchups against the Wizards when meeting up with them in Washington.
The Wizards are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall and 7-3-1 against the spread in their last 11 games played at home. The Wizards have gone over the posted total in four straight games played at home.
Atlanta and Washington will be playing a rivalry matchup and that usually brings out the best in players, as they will look to step it up to make a statement. However, Washington has done nothing all year long and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Atlanta wins this game outright.
Hawks +2 1/2
