Battle Of Florida: The Sequal – Magic Versus Heat
Feb 19th, 2012 by PJ LaFerla
This NBA Sunday afternoon features a rematch of the “Battle of Florida” – a previous article I wrote when division rivals (Miami Heat and Orlando Magic) met just 11 days ago. There is a lot at stake with this matchup, and obviously neither team wants to be on the losing end, while the other will be sure to claim bragging rights in the sunshine state.
A breakdown of the game for the bettors:
The Miami Heat are the leagues elite offense, ranking number one in points scored with just fewer than 104 per game. They average 48.6% from the field each and every time they hit the hardwood, easily conquering the Magic’s number of 43.6% per game. However, the Magic have boasted a defense this season that is amongst the stingiest in the league, ranking 6th overall, giving up only 91 points per game on average; and on the road it’s even better – ranking 4th.
Dating back 10 matchups between these two foes, the Magic have the advantage with a 6-4 record overall and against the spread, including the last 2 games.
That trend did not sway the Oddsmakers as the Heat are a solid -9.5 point favorites, while the over/under is posted at 194.
The facts about these two teams:
The Magic own a team record of 20-11 straight up and 18-13 against the spread, riding a 4 game win streak in the process. On the road they have won 7 of their last 10 games and against the Heat in Miami, they have come away with 8 victories in 11 outings. Even more brilliant against the Heat, they have posted a 17-5 record dating back the last 22 games.
The Heat own a team record of 24-7 straight up (1st place) and 16-15 against the spread. Their “heat” nickname is fitting, as they are red-hot and winners of 5 straight games overall and at home.
Who to be on?
Even though the Magic have Dwight Howard and are holding their own in the league, Miami is that much better than Orlando and it will show today. Don’t be scared to lay the -9.5 as Miami will not disappoint and will have you cashing in a winning ticket on this Sunday afternoon.
Make your play on the Miami Heat to cover the point spread!
